I'm Gocha Okreshidze, a licensed attorney in Tbilisi with a passion for helping my clients navigate complex legal challenges. My background includes degrees from Tbilisi State University and the University of Illinois, equipping me to handle a diverse range of cases. Over my career, I've proudly represented clients in more than 300 litigations and have helped over 200 entrepreneurs launch their businesses.
In the sultry month of August in the tumultuous year of 2020, I
embarked on a groundbreaking entrepreneurial journey, founding AI Law.
My pioneering mission is to create a fully digital law firm that under
the banner of AI Law provides top-quality legal services to clients
across the globe, all from the comfort of their own homes.
Before embarking on my entrepreneurial journey, I achieved my
Bachelor’s Degree in Law (magna cum laude) with a GPA of 3.9, ranking
4th among all the graduates of 2015 from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi
State University (TSU). While studying at TSU, I achieved laurels by
winning the Moot Court in Private Law, organized by the European Law
Students’ Association, and the Annual National Commercial Law Moot
Court organized by the Free University of Tbilisi. Furthermore, I was
a part of the World Universities Comparative Law Project organized by
international law firm Allen & Overy and represented the TSU team at
the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna,
organized by UNCITRAL.
In 2016, my thirst for knowledge
propelled me to pursue my studies abroad. My credentials were
recognized by nineteen prestigious universities in the United States,
the United Kingdom, and continental Europe, including Brunel
University London, UC Davis School of Law, Institute for Law and
Finance of Frankfurt, King’s College London, New England Law Boston,
Northeastern University, University of Aberdeen, University of
Birmingham, UC Hastings College of Law, University of Edinburgh,
Boston College Law School, University of Glasgow, University of
Leicester, University of Nottingham, Queen Mary University of London,
University of San Diego School of Law, Widener University Delaware Law
School and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I was
awarded scholarships totaling $146,950 and £27,095 from these
institutions. In 2017, I graduated from the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign, College of Law, where I was fortunate enough to be a
part of an alma mater of 24 Nobel Prize laureates and 29 Pulitzer
Prize winners. The College of Law is consistently ranked as one of the
top law schools in the US by U.S. News & World Report, and the
university itself is ranked №22 in the world by the Center for World
University Rankings. During my time at UIUC, I was bestowed the CALI
Excellence for the Future Award twice - in Contracts and
Constitutional Law.
I’ve been practicing law since 2013,
starting my journey at Human Rights Priority, the then-leading
non-governmental human rights organization led by Lia Mukhashavria.
For a brief period in 2014, I worked as a visiting researcher at the
Ministry of Justice of Georgia, Analytical Department where I worked
on freedom of information and personal data protection issues. I’ve
been an associate attorney at the BLC Law Office since 2015 until July
2020, successfully handling hundreds of complex litigations and
representing clients in transactional matters. In 2020, I was elected
as the General Counsel for the prominent Georgian hospitality company
City Loft; concurrently, I also held the position of Counsel to the
General Counsel at Adjaragroup. In 2021, I assumed the role of Legal
Director and Partner at the Georgian law firm BB Legal.
Apart
from my law practice, I impart knowledge as an invited lecturer at
Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, where I teach courses in
Private International Law and International Civil Litigation. My works
are regularly published in the Georgian-German Comparative Law
Journal. In June 2023, I became the Head Coach of the TSU Vis Moot
team. I successfully guided the team to the top 32, earning the Eric
E. Bergsten Award for Best Team Orals, Honorable Mentions I, and
setting a new record in Georgian history. Given the lack of a winning
tradition and numerous challenges from all sides, I consider this
victory one of my most incredible and seemingly impossible
achievements.
In 2020, when I transitioned from legal practice
into academia, I made the decision to pursue a PhD in order to develop
a deeper specialization and gain the ability to write and publish with
scholarly rigor. Since then, I’ve been preparing for that path, and in
2024, I officially began my PhD at the University of Illinois
Urbana-Champaign, under the supervision of Professor Ralph Brubaker -
widely regarded as one of the foremost bankruptcy scholars of his
generation in the United States. Even without a full view of that
generation from an academic perspective, this already seems like quite
a high bar. I was particularly pleased to learn that I was the very
first JSD student my advisor had ever taken on, as being first is
something I’ve always strived for. I only wish I had known that before
investing five years - and all of my savings - to enroll.
Unfortunately, I had to leave the program shortly after completing the
first year and passing the qualifying exam. Still, I haven’t abandoned
my goal of earning a PhD - I’ve simply come to understand that it’s a
path that calls for a bit more careful preparation.

In August 2020, AI Law was launched with a foundational belief: that
artificial intelligence could fundamentally reshape the landscape of
legal services. We are not just a law firm; we are a legal technology
pioneer, dedicated to engineering intelligent, forward-thinking
solutions that meet the demands of a rapidly evolving digital world.
Our mission extends beyond the courtroom and the boardroom. We
are committed to demystifying the law for everyone. By creating
compelling and accessible legal content - from insightful articles to
dynamic explainer videos and animations - we translate complex legal
concepts into clear, actionable knowledge, empowering a wider audience
to understand their rights and opportunities.
Currently, our
practice is centered on the critical areas of litigation,
transactions, and small business tax. In each domain, we leverage
sophisticated AI tools to augment our legal expertise, dramatically
enhancing efficiency, ensuring pinpoint accuracy, and delivering
outcomes that consistently surpass traditional benchmarks.
Our
vision for the future is global. We are strategically developing a
network of customer service hubs worldwide to provide seamless,
personalized support to our clients, wherever they may be.
Concurrently, we are engaged in a relentless pursuit of innovation,
continuously deepening the integration of AI into our services to
anticipate and master the legal challenges of tomorrow.
Technology is our instrument, but our people are our strength.
AI Law is built on a culture that champions intellectual curiosity,
collaboration, and professional growth. We cultivate an environment
where legal minds are encouraged to challenge convention, innovate
boldly, and contribute to a supportive, forward-thinking community.
As we continue to grow, we extend an invitation to the world's
most talented and ambitious legal professionals. This is an
opportunity to not only expand your own client network but to join a
vanguard movement, shaping the very future of legal practice.
Together, we are architecting the next era of law. Join us in
redefining what's possible.
My foundation in law traces back to the Faculty of Law at Tbilisi
State University, where I engaged deeply with a curriculum spanning
from the classical roots of Roman law to the intricate frameworks of
contemporary regulations. In line with a broader professional
instinct, one not unique to Georgia yet distinctly shaping the paths
of its most accomplished professionals, I pursued what is often termed
an “foreign education.” This practice, less a matter of content than
of perspective, represents not so much a departure from earlier
studies as a layering of experience, whose value, while occasionally
elusive in strictly academic terms, is recognized nonetheless. In
following this trajectory, I completed my LL.M. at the University of
Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
I have continuously remained engaged
in legal practice, accumulating experience across both contentious
litigations and transactional matters. Since 2020, I have divided my
work between legal practice and teaching at my alma mater. In Georgia,
as elsewhere, formal structures often demand that even seasoned
practitioners navigate certain procedural thresholds. The requirement
of a doctoral degree for academic engagement is one such threshold.
Returning to Illinois for this purpose presented itself as the most
coherent progression. What unfolded through that journey, however,
defied simple expectations. Looking back to the roots of this
sentiment, I now realize that, of the many possible destinations, each
offering its own kind of prestige and narrative, the selection was
informed by considerations I’ve come to appreciate more over time than
in the moment of decision. Even this chapter, with all its
complexities and diversions, left my professional growth untouched,
though perhaps not without leaving certain impressions to settle in
ways less easily accounted for. Certain insights from that period have
been gathered, perhaps imperfectly, in a work entitled Leo Herzel’s
Student Diary, which I make available for those inclined to explore
further.
Even if the formal conferral of my doctorate will took
longer than anticipated, the interval was not without its quiet
productivity. What crystallized was a clearer understanding of where
my professional energies find their most natural expression: less in
the immediacy of lectures and more within the reflective spaces of
writing and inquiry. My scholarship, while rooted firmly within legal
discourse, moves fluidly between the doctrinal and the structural, the
technical and the empirical. Areas such as bankruptcy, conflict of
laws, and the obligations that bind civil actors remain central to my
work, though I continue to explore the intersections where law
converges with history, philosophy, and data-driven inquiry.
Alongside my primary career, I am an independent music producer with a deep passion for electronic music. I spend much of my free time in the studio, weaving dark narratives through heavy synths and driving beats to create immersive audio landscapes. For me, music is a vital outlet for exploring the heavier side of the human experience. My tracks serve as sonic stories centered on themes of betrayal, envy, struggle, and defeat - a space where I can express raw emotion purely through sound. I have experience working with music production tools like Ableton and am a 303Hz certified music producer. If you'd like to hear the worlds I've been building, you can explore my releases on SoundCloud. You can also stream my latest tracks on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.
